I've attempted to include a few favorites from every city I've spent time in; I hope that if you find yourself in the neighborhood, you'll give one of these places a try. Email me for more info if you're interested.
Who |
What |
Where |
Avanti | Awesome higher-end Mediterranean and Middle Eastern food & great atmosphere in Dallas. | www.avantirestaurants.com |
Fleetwood Diner | The best chili cheese fries in the universe, let alone Ann Arbor. | Here. |
Fogo de Chão Churrascaria | I've never been to Brazil so I don't know how authentic this place is, but they have locations there (as well as Dallas, Houston, Chicao and Atlanta). The place is amazing. All you can eat of just about any kind of grilled meat you can think of, and it's all good--and the price is reasonable. A good wine list too. This is not a place for vegetarians or anyone on a diet! | www.fogodechao.com |
Giglio's | Authentic Italian market in St. Clare Shores, MI. Try their home-made Cotticini. | Here. |
Guero's Taco Bar | The best Mexican in Austin, and that's sayin' sumpin'. | Here. |
Heidelberg | Ann Arbor's best music (not to mention poetry, food, and beer) venue. | www.theheidelberg.net |
Kreuz Market | The best barbeque in the universe, in Lockhart, TX (45 minutes south of Austin). | www.kreuzmarket.com |
Liberty | Pontiac Michigan, tapas mecca. Yes, I said "tapas," not "topless." Certainly the best kept secret in southeastern Michigan. | www.thelibertybar.com |
Lulu's | The friendliness of the staff and the quiet and cleanliness of the street outside are the only clues that you're not in New York city. In fact, you're in Bellaire, a small town in Northern Michigan, and my friend Clif Wilson probably created your meal. Awesome. | Here. |
Ruth's Chris | Unique? No. Reliable and ubiquitous? Yes. | www.ruthschris.com |
Silver Spoon | In Dallas--without a doubt my favorite Pakistani hole in the wall, anywhere. | Here. |
The Earle | An Ann Arbor institution, and almost worth the Ben per person it'll cost you (if you like wine). Great Jazz too. | www.theearle.com |
